Care or supervision proceedings are where the Minister for Children and Education (the Children’s Service) has applied to the court to protect a child, where there are serious concerns about a child’s safety or welfare.

Public law applications include Emergency Protection Orders, Interim Care Orders, Supervision Orders and Secure Accommodation Orders.

Pre-Proceedings 

The aim of this process is to identify children who are at risk of significant harm, and to inform the Minister for Children and Education as to whether the risk presented in a particular case can be managed with additional support and guidance or whether proceedings are necessary.
